A 35-year old man, Taiwo Ajewole, has been arrested after his wife allegedly caught him sexually molesting their two-year old daughter in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Holiness Crescent, Aboru area of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, where the suspect resides with his family.
The alleged defilement, which Ajewole was arrested for, attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.
What would have led him to have committed such dastardly act was not immediately known but the Police alleged that he removed the girl’s pant and forcefully penetrated her before he was eventually caught by his wife, who raised alarm which attracted other neighbours.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area and the suspect was arrested. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Command in Ikeja, Lagos for interrogation.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Bisi Ogunleye, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s report finds Ajewole culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence over jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned till 9th August, 2021, for report of the DPP to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
