A 33-year old woman, Aminat Ganiyu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing spiritual prayer mat and altar climber inside a church.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Jesu Oseun Church located at Eniola Davies Street, Abule Egba area of Lagos.
She was said to have stolen the items alongside a booklet of tenancy receipt belonging to Ogunrinde Ganiyu.
According to the Police, she went to the church, carted away the items and escaped. When the owner of the property saw what happened the following day, he contacted the Police who traced and arrested the suspect and detained her for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you Ganiyu Aminat ‘f and others still at large, at Eniola Davies Street Abule Egba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you Ganiyu Aminat ‘f’ and others still at large, on the same date, time and place in aforesaid Magisterial District, did steal climber, prayer mat valued the sum of Thirty Five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) and Tenancy Booklet receipt property of one Mr. Ogunrinde Ibrahim and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (5)(a)(b) (7) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you Ganiyu Aminat ‘f and others still at large, on the same date, time and place in aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully interfere with the properties of Mr. Ogunrinde Ganiyu and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 340 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria.
However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
