A 34-year-old woman, Sofilat Yaro, has been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate Court for allegedly smashing the head of another woman, Fatimo Mohammed, with a pestle during a squabble.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th April, 2026, at Agbole area of Isheri, where they reside.
According to the Police, the woman and the complainant had a disagreement over an undisclosed matter, which led to exchange of words. In the process, she attacked the complainant and inflicted injury on her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Division. The woman was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Sofihat Yaro ‘F’ on the 18th of April, 2026, at about 1300hrs at Agbole area of Isheri in the Ikeja magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Fatimo Mohammed ‘F’ by using a pestle on her head, pouring hot soup and hot Tuwo on her body, which caused her grievous harm. You thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 245 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
