Woman, 39, Remanded In Custody For Stripping Son, 14, Naked In Public

A 39-year old woman, Mrs. Enobong Ekanem, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting her 14-year old son, Jonathan Ekanem, by stripping him naked in public.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Mrs. Ekanem has been arrested and charged for indecent assault.
The incident happened on 26th August, 2024, at Theresa Agbim Street, Agungi area of Lekki, Lagos, where they reside.
The Police did not disclose what the victim committed which made the mother to have done that to the extent of pushing him outside the house naked. But the Police alleged the mother to have assaulted the victim by beating him with a mopping stick and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. 2015.
The alleged assault was exposed after their neighbours, who witnessed what happened, contacted the Police at the Gender Section of the Command. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained her for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After interrogation,  the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged assault.
Part of the charges read:
“That you, Enobong Ekanem ‘f, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did indecently treated your son, one Jonathan Ekanem ‘m’ age 14years old by pushing him outside the house into the street naked and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
