Woman, 41, Arraigned For Allegedly Biting Teenager And Inflicting Grievous Harm In Igando

A 41-year-old woman, Olodu Magdalene, was arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations of assaulting a 17-year-old girl in the Igando area of Lagos State.  

According to the charge sheet marked M18/58/24, the incident occurred on May 27, 2026 at about 8:00am at No. 15, Yemisi Okelola Street, Igando, within the Lagos Magisterial District.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge. The prosecution is the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.

Count One alleged that Olodu Magdalene unlawfully caused grievous harm to one Daniel Victoria, aged 17. The charge stated that the defendant allegedly inflicted the injury by biting the victim and tearing flesh from her forehead.

The offence is said to be punishable under Section 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. The section deals with acts that cause grievous harm to another person.

In Count Two, the defendant was accused of infringing on the right to dignity of the teenager. The charge sheet alleged that she subjected the victim to torture, inhuman and degrading treatment.

This second count is punishable under Section 10(1)(b) of the Child’s Rights Law of Lagos State, 2015. The law protects children from abuse and inhuman treatment.

The case was instituted by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice. The prosecutor listed in the document is from the Ogba District.

The Investigating Police Officer listed on the charge sheet is Inspector Lorita Idehai of Igando Police Division.

During proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty to both counts. The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the court for a date to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted the defendant bail with two sureties. The court ordered that the sureties must be reliable and provide proof of identity and means.

The matter was adjourned for mention. The defendant was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the perfection of her bail conditions.

 

Legal experts say the charges are serious and carry significant penalties under Lagos State law. They noted that cases of grievous harm and violation of child rights are treated with strict enforcement by the courts.
