Woman, 46, Sent To Prison For Stealing Cash & Items Worth N2.7m At Super Market

A 46-year old woman, Shadiat Adefisayo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing cash and items worth over N2.7m at a supermarket. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Care Associate mini super market, Oja area of Ipaja, Lagos, where the suspect, Adefisayo, was employed as a staff.

 

According to the Police, the suspect stole the items worth N2.165m and cash sum of N534,850 belonging to the company.

 

The alleged theft was discovered after the company conducted an internal audit and discovered that the items were missing. They asked to know what happened, but she was unable to explain.

 

She was subsequently handed over to the Police at Ipaja Division for interrogation. After interrogation, she was found culpable for the alleged theft and was consequently charged before the Court.

 

She pleaded not guilty when she she was arraigned.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence by bringing witnesses to testify against her before the Court.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 1st July, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
