Woman, 49, Docked For Arranging With Son To Beat Husband Mercilessly

A woman, Gloria Ngozi Igbonekwu, has been arrested and charged alongside her 19-year old son, Chukwudi Igbonekwu, for battering her husband, Edwin Igbonekwu and Inflicting injury on him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th January, 2025, at No. 27 Sanni Street, lyana Itire, Ilogbo, Ajangbadi, Ojo area of Lagos State, where they reside.
The cause of the fight was not disclosed by the Police. But it was alleged that the woman and her son conspired and assaulted the man by giving him fist blows, which caused injury on his body as well as pulling down the compound’s  gate during the fight.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ilembe Hause Division. The woman and her son were arrested and charged before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
“That you, Chukwudi Igbonekwu ‘m’ and Gloria Ngozi Igbonekwu, f, on the 18th day of January, 2025, at about 1930hrs at No. 27 Sanni Street, lyana Itire, Ilogbo, Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos State, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit Assault, wilful damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Chukwudi Igbonekwu ‘m’ and Gloria Ngozi Igbonekwu ‘f, on the same date, lime and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did assault your father and your husband respectively, one Edwin Igbonekwu ‘m’ by giving him fist blows all over his body, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III: “That you, Chukwudi Igbonekwu ‘m’ and Gloria Ngozi Igbonekwu ‘f, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully and willfully pull down the compound’s gate of one Edwin Igbonekwu ‘m’, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT IV:” That you, Chukwudi Igbonekwu ‘m’ and Gloria Ngozi Igbonekwu ‘f, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did violently threaten to kill your father, one Edwin Igbonekwu ‘m’ with broken bottles, an act which caused him fears and put his life in danger and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT V: That you Chukwudi Igbanekwu ‘m’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace bathing your father, one Edwin Igbonekwu, with the left over bottle of soft drink you were drinking, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
They pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
