A 54-year old woman, Afisat Olufemi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly stealing three bags of jewelries worth over N3.8m belonging to another woman, Fumilayo Bello, at an event center during a party.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that she has been arrested and charged for stealing over her alleged conduct against the complainant.
The incident happened at Eagle Hall Events Center, located at Bode Thomas Area, Surulere, at about 3pm during the party attended by the complainant.
According to the Police,  the suspect went to the event center, pretended to be a guest and targeted the complainant’s bag.  Without the knowledge of the complainant, she stole the items and tried to escape before she was caught.
She was handed over to the Police Monitoring Unit at the State Command, Ikeja, for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation,  she was found culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Afisat Olufemi on 6th June, 2025, at Eagle Hall Events Centre, Bode Thomas Area, Surulere at about 3pm in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully steal 3 bags of jewelries worth N3,800,000.00 (Three Million Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) property of Fumilayo Bello ‘f and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (8) [b] of the criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
