Police operatives at Shasha Division, Lagos, have arrested a woman, Mrs. Caroline Emezie, who reportedly wanted to open a Church and then subjected her kids including a 5-year old daughter to compulsory one month dry fasting in order to possess spiritual powers.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Mrs. Caroline Emezie had claimed that she was obeying the directive from God and stated that the children needed to complete the fasting so that her ministry will grow and be successful.

However, when the victims were subjected to several weeks of hunger and starvation, they could no longer bear it and cried bitterly. It attracted the attention of their neighbours, who then contacted the Police.
The Police went to the place, arrested Caroline and then rescued the children to the Police Station for investigation.

During interrogation, Mrs. Caroline, an indigene of Anambra State, told the Police that God directed her to start a ministry, to use her children as her first converts and would have to fast along with her for the success of the ministry.
Sister Caro, as she is popularly called and the children were at Shasha Police Station, from where they would be transferred to the Ministry of Social Welfare.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that a woman (names withheld), who gave them the shop they stayed in, was also quizzed for not reporting the ugly development to the Police.

It was gathered that the woman and her children had approached the shop owner and pleaded with her to give them a room to sleep over as they were stranded. She then offered them an empty shop and gave them two weeks to enable them to get an accommodation.
A Police source said that after the expiration of the two weeks, Mrs. Caroline refused to quit, telling the shop owner that God had instructed her to open a ministry in the place. She also told the shop owner that God equally instructed her family to go on one month dry fasting.
The Police officer said that the shop owner, who was afraid the way the children were crying and dying of hunger, gathered some youths who forcefully ejected them.

According to the Police source, it was while the woman and her children were roaming the streets that a patrol team from Shasha Police Division picked the woman and her children.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who said that the family had been rescued and taken to Shasha Police Station, from where they would be handed over to the appropriate ministry.
According to him, the woman and her children were in a terrible condition as they subjected themselves to many weeks of hunger and starvation.
DSP Elkana said that the woman claimed that God instructed her and her children to go on one month dry fasting, which was very strange as her 5-year old child was visibly tortured with hunger. He said while waiting for the appropriate Ministry to take over the victims, the Police had been taking care of their feeding and medications.
