A 20-year old housewife, Lamratu Nasiru, has landed in trouble after she allegedly attacked her co-wife’s baby as revenge and murdered her during a public fight with the mother, Mrs. Zabbau Nasiru, in Katsina State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Mrs. Lamratu has been arrested and charged before the Court for murder and remanded in Nigeria Correctional Centre, Katsina State, over the death of her stepdaughter.
The defendant, Lamratu and the baby’s mother, Zabbau, were wives of one Mallam Nasiru of Unguwar Shalele village, Matazu Local Government Area of the state, before the sad incident.
The defendant was arrested by the Police after they received a report of the ugly incident that the baby sustained a serious injury on her head and was rushed to the General Hospital, Musawa, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.
At the Katsina Magistrates Court, where the defendant was arraigned, the Police told the Court that the incident occurred on 21st August, 2022, at Unguwar Shalele village.
The victim’s mother, Mrs. Zabbau, reported the incident at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Matazu, following which Lamratu was arrested and charged before Court for culpable homicide in accordance with Section 189 of Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021.
The Court further heard that the baby’s mother, Zabbau, also allegedly sustained injuries during the brawl.
The Police prosecutor, Supol Sani Ado, however, told the Court that investigation was still in progress on the case, pleading for another date when the case could come up for mention at the Court.
The Presiding Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, granted the request and adjourned the case to 24th October, 2022, for mention and ordered that Lamratu be remanded in the Katsina Correctional Centre till that date.
The defendant risks several years of imprisonment for murder if she is found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
