Woman Raises Alarm Over Kidnapped Husband Along Alaba International Market Road In Lagos

 

 

 

This is not the best time for Mrs Latifat Omolade Shittu whose husband, Mr Shittu Yusuf Olamilekan was kidnapped on 11 September 2023 on his way to Alaba International Market in Lagos, southwest Nigeria

Since the unfortunate incident happened, Mrs Shittu said she and her children have been living in fear.

Speaking with journalists in the wake of her husband kidnapped at her residence at 7 Ola Iya Lane, Ajangbadi Sabo Oniba, Lagos, Mrs Shittu lamented that she didn’t know the condition which the kidnappers might have subjected her 35-year-old husband to in their den, adding that when they (kidnappers) contacted her the second day her husband went missing, they demanded for a ransom running to millions of naira, but after much pleading and bargaining, they accepted to collect the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000).

“I thought that was the end as I was looking forward to the returning of my husband after the payment, but I was surprised that the second day, they called me to demand for another five hundred thousand naira.

“It was at this time I became suspicious that these people might have killed my husband. When they called, I have to ask them to show me proof that my husband was alive.

“These people have to do a recording video of my husband to clear my doubt for me to pay the ransom. It was after I paid the second five hundred thousand naira that they released my husband,” she narrated amid tears.

While responding to the question on reason she could not reach out to the police when the kidnapp incident happened, Mrs Shittu, a mother of two; Sofiat Abidemi and Idris Ayoola, said she was being cautious as the kidnappers have threatened that the police won’t be able to rescue her husband.

She, however, made shocking revelation that despite the payment and the release of her husband, the kidnappers have been demanding for money and threatening to kill her husband and the children including her.

 

“On 12 September 2023, I, my sister and my husband’s brother and his friends went to the police station at Morogbo to report the case so that the security agents could swing into action to rescue my husband. Thank goodness, I was able to record the conversation I had with the kidnappers which I presented to the police as evidence.

“The police did a surprise thing that made me decided not to look up to them again. They demanded the sum of three hundred thousand naira (N300,000) as a mobilisation fee for them to go for the rescue mission and tracked the kidnappers. From that moment I was convinced that the police won’t help me, so I decided to pay the ransoms,” Mrs Shittu said.
