A 58-year old woman, Mrs Edith Chibuzor has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for failing to produce her daughter, Gift who she stood as surety for at the Police Station.

She was charged with conspiracy and perversion of justice under the Criminal Code and was remanded in prison custody.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Edith suffered her fate after her daughter, Gift was arrested by the police over allegation of fraud.

Our correspondent gathered that Gift was employed as the company sales representative at Clarion Medical Limited located at 12 Lawal street, Obawole in Iju area of Lagos.

However, after she resumed work and  was entrusted with goods worth N2.8m, she was said to have sold the goods, diverted the money and did not remit it to the company’s account.

When she was confronted and she did not give satisfactory answer about the money, the matter was reported to the Police and Gift was arrested and taken to the Police Division at Ilupeju.

While Gift was in detention, her mom, Edith, went there and stood as surety for her and promised the Police to produce her anytime they needed her.

However, when Gift was released from custody, she reportedly absconded and did not inform her mother about her movement.

When the police requested for Gift, the mother was unable to produce her, thus she was arrested and charged before the court.

When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 16 May 2017.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that after Edith was arrested, Gift was contacted but she replied that her mother should sort herself out because she was not willing to return back to Lagos.
