Woman Who Stole 2 Kids To Replace Her Missing Daughter Remanded

A 50-year old woman, Mrs. Vera Henry who stole two kids to replace her missing daughter has been charged to court and remanded in prison custody in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged abduction took place along Herbert Macaulay Road in Yaba, Lagos where she accosted the victims, Mariam Jubril, 2 and Mukaila Ya’u, 10 and took them away.

However, while she was escaping with the victims to an unknown place, the police on surveillance led by the DPO, Sabo Division, suspected and trailed her before she diverted with the children into St. Dominic Catholic Church, Yaba, Lagos where the police then alerted the church security over her suspicious conduct.

The church security men then apprehended and took her to Sabo Police Division, Yaba for interrogation.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that during the interrogations, she confessed and told the police that the victims, aged 2 and 10 looked like her missing daughter as she was told by a diviner that her daughter was still alive but that her stature had reduced. She explained that she decided to pick them as they might be her daughter that was reduced to that size as she was told by the diviner.

P.M.EXPRESS reported that while the interrogations were going on at the police station, information got to the parents of the victims – Mr. Jibril Garba and Mukaila Amidu, who then came to the police station and identified their children.

They explained that the elder victim was  sent on an errand and the younger victim followed him before they were kidnapped.

Mrs. Henry was arraigned before Ogba Magistrates who ordered her to be remanded in prison for the alleged offence.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Raphael Donny did not object her bail condition and urged the court to give a date for the trial.
Thus the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Adedayo granted Mrs. Henry bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 31 May, 2018.
