The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu OFR, has called for a united South Eastern States.
Engr. Iwuanyanwu made the call at the grand finale event marking World IGBO Day 2023, held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, Enugu State.
Speaking during the event, which had in attendance the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, and Representatives of the Governor of Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi States, the National Chairman of APGA, Barr Sly Ezeokenwa, Mrs. Uche Azikiwe, wife of Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, as well as the wife of Late Dim Chukwumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ikemba Ndigbo, Amb. Bianca Ojukwu, amongst other dignitaries, Engr. Iwuanyanwu stressed the need for a united Igbo nation, while commending the Governor of Enugu state for his pledge to allocate a site where a mausoleum would be built by the National Leadership of the Ohaneze Worldwide.
Engr. Iwuanyanwu, who pleaded with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, GCFR, to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention, said it would help in fostering enduring peace in the South East, while noting that the insecurity in the region can be attributed to oppression and marginalisation, and pleaded that more Igbo descendants should be incorporated into the National Executive Council while thanking the President for his recent appointment of illustrious sons and daughters of Igbo into his cabinet.
Gov. Soludo, while speaking at the event, assured the South Eastern Governors’ resolve in supporting the Ohaneze Ndigbo in mapping out a long-term development plan for the Igbo nation, stressing that it would be a step in right direction towards the emancipation of the the region from the aged lamentations to a prosperous era of putting positive measures in the right places.
Speaking at the event, Gov. Peter Mbah expressed optimism on the fast-changing trajectory of the Igbo nation while calling on Ndigbo to come together as one for the common good of the people.
Engr. Dr. Prince Arthur Eze, ably represented by Ichie Izuchukwu Nwabueze, chaired the occasion in the presence of Iyom Josephine Anenih, Sen. Dr. Chris Ngige, Most Rev. E. O Chukwuma, Dame Virgy Etiaba, and Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Amb Lawrence Agubuzu, among numerous others.
The theme of the 2023 World Igbo Day is IGBO KUNIE, and the event was held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, Enugu State.
