A 24-year old man, Aiyedun Olushola Paul, has been arrested in Lagos State for publicly assaulting a housewife, Mrs. Jane Maxwell, and telling her husband that he had slept with her in a hotel and she stole some of his items in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 19th August, 2023, at Council Bus Stop, Idimu area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the woman, Mrs. Jane, was returning from a vigil with her daughter in the morning when Paul accosted her at the bus stop and attempted to snatch her bag. When he failed, he then held the woman and raised alarm that she stole his items including a gold wristwatch and chain worth an undisclosed huge amount of money.
To prove that he actually slept with her in the hotel, the suspect, Paul, claimed that Mrs. Jane had a tattoo on her buttocks. And if there was any doubt about his claim, that she should remove her clothes and pants to prove him wrong.
The people who were present believed him and asked that Mrs. Jane should remove her pants for checks to see if she had any tattoo on her buttocks or she should return whatever she stole from Paul at the hotel.
The woman was shocked by his claims and she contacted her husband, Maxwell. Her husband came to ask what happened and Paul told him that he slept with his wife in a hotel and she stole some of his items after rounds of sex.
He described lady’s private part and claimed that she had a tattoo on her buttocks.
The lady’s husband then knew that he was lying and contacted the Police. They were taken to the station for further investigation as Paul insisted that he had slept with the lady, Mrs. Jane.
The Police, who were in dilemma on who to believe, then took Mrs. Jane to a room and ordered her to remove her pants in order to know if she actually had any tattoo as claimed by Paul.
The Police women then checked her and discovered that she had no tattoo on her buttocks and Paul was found culpable.
The Police subsequently charged him before Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and assault.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 16th October, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
