Pioneer President of the Oriwu Club of Ikorodu, Chief Olabode Ogunleye on Saturday described gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next governor of the State.

Chief Olabode during an interactive session organized by the foremost club of the Ikorodu division said going by the amount of energy, zeal and understanding of the subject matter in relation to governance displayed by Sanwo-Olu in the last four months, ‘‘it is without doubt that you are most fit and prepared to be governor of Lagos State, come March 2nd this year’’.

The interactive session held at the club’s headquarters in Ikorodu, where all the major stakeholders in the development of Ikorodu, most of who are members of the club were present.

President of the Oriwu Club, Engineer Olukayode Anibaba, while welcoming Sanwo-Olu and his team described him as very fit to occupy the position of governor of Lagos.

‘‘I have known you since your days as Commissioner for Establishment in the State. You’re brilliant, humane and very passionate. I have no reason to doubt your capacity to further develop Lagos State,’’ Anibaba said.

He however warned the APC candidate to beware of sycophants and those that will tell him only what he wants to hear adding that sycophants are only after their selfish interests.

Anibaba further appealed to the APC flag bearer not to see any civil servants as his enemies if elected.

He said that it is common practice that when a new governor is elected into office, some politicians and their civil servant collaborators will bring a list of those they perceive as enemies for the governor to lay off. He advised Sanwo-Olu to shun such practice.

Other members of the club offered advice and suggestions on how best to confront some perennial challenges facing the Ikorodu division.

The APC candidate promised to look into some of the suggestions and advice offered by the club patrons. He told the gathering of his plan to rid the State of traffic congestion within the first 100 days in office.

‘‘Traffic is a major challenge in Lagos State and we are determined to tackle it headlong from our first day in office. We have identified about 60 gridlock points in the State, three or four are in Ikorodu. We will address each one of the point based on their peculiarities.’’ Sanwo-Olu stated.

Sanwo-Olu spoke on other components of his THEME agenda for a greater Lagos, which include Health and environment, Education and technology, Making Lagos a 21st century economy and Entertainment and tourism.

On health, Sanwo-Olu assured the elders that if elected, his government will ensure that most Lagosians are covered by the newly introduced Lagos State Health Insurance. He also promised to focus attention on primary health care centres spread across the 57 Local Government areas in the State.

The APC standard bearer said his government will be heavy on technology-driven education. He described today’s learning as nothing without technology.

‘‘In the course of this campaign, my deputy and I have introduced Free WiFi in higher institutions in the State. This is because we believe strongly that the youth in the State should be able to compete with their peers in any part of the world and the only way to bridge that gap is the Internet.’’

Other areas touched by Sanwo-Olu are improving the economy of the State as well as entertainment and tourism.
