Party moves into decisive electoral phase as aspirants contest tickets across federal, state and senatorial constituencies

The Youth Party on Friday, 29th May, 2026, conducted primary elections across selected constituencies as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, marking another major milestone in the party’s growing political activities nationwide.

The primaries, held across different locations, attracted party officials, delegates, aspirants, and observers, reflecting growing momentum within the party as it intensifies preparations for the next electoral cycle.

Party members described the exercise as a critical internal democratic process aimed at selecting candidates who will represent the platform in legislative contests at both state and federal levels.

Across constituencies, delegates gathered to participate in voting processes designed to determine who will emerge as standard-bearers for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The exercise formed part of broader efforts by the Youth Party to strengthen internal participation and expand its political footprint across the country.

Political observers say the primaries represent an important test of organisational readiness for a party seeking to position itself more competitively in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Among the closely watched contests was the primary election for the Idanre State House Constituency in Ondo State, involving Mr. Obafusi Obatayo Johnson, whose participation attracted notable attention among party stakeholders.

Attention also turned to Bayelsa State, where Mr. Corlenius Oguara participated in the party’s primary process for the Nembe State House Constituency.

In the South-East, interest surrounded the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal House Constituency, where Engr. Ojisi Lebechi Ogbaja featured in the party’s primary contest.

Party members also monitored developments around the Dekina/Bassa Federal House Constituency, another constituency viewed as strategically important in the party’s expansion efforts.

The Kaduna North Senatorial primaries equally emerged as one of the contests drawing attention as party stakeholders looked ahead to broader national participation in the 2027 elections.

In Lagos State, party members closely followed developments surrounding Ms. Dolapo Osunsina, who contested in relation to Eti-Osa Constituency II of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The primaries came barely days after the party concluded its screening exercise for aspirants, an exercise that saw candidates undergo internal verification and eligibility procedures ahead of the vote.

For many participants, Friday’s exercise represented more than a contest for party tickets; it symbolised a test of ideas, grassroots engagement, and political organisation.

Across several locations, party members participated directly in the primary process under the Youth Party’s One Member One Vote (OMOV) system, allowing every eligible member the opportunity to cast a vote and take part in electing candidates who will represent the party in future elections.

The process generated heightened anticipation as members exercised their voting rights in contests expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party stakeholders described turnout and participation levels as encouraging, noting increased interest in the party’s internal democratic activities.

The primaries also reflected growing engagement among younger political actors seeking platforms for representation and leadership.

Observers noted that contests across constituencies carried strategic significance, particularly in areas where the party hopes to build stronger visibility ahead of the general elections.

The Youth Party has continued to position itself as a platform advocating greater citizen participation, accountability, and issue-based politics.

Friday’s exercise, party members say, reflects continuing efforts to deepen democratic engagement internally while preparing for larger political contests ahead.

Across participating constituencies, conversations quickly shifted from internal contests to the realities of campaigning, voter engagement, and grassroots mobilisation in preparation for the national elections.

Political analysts say internal primaries often provide early signals about a party’s organisational discipline and readiness for broader electoral participation.

For aspirants, the primaries represented a defining moment after weeks of consultations, preparations, and internal engagements with delegates and stakeholders.

As results and final outcomes continue to emerge from participating constituencies, party supporters say expectations remain high regarding the calibre of candidates that will eventually fly the Youth Party flag.

With the 2027 general elections gradually approaching, Friday’s primary elections mark what many within the party describe as the beginning of a more competitive political journey for the Youth Party across multiple constituencies in Nigeria.
