There was sigh of relief in Umuchu and Umunze towns in both Aguata and Orumba South Local Government areas of Anambra State as the State Governor,  Professor Chukwuma Soludo, flagged off reconstruction of the road, which had claimed several lives.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the road, which cuts across the boundary between the two towns, had suffered neglect over the years and it turned out to be haven for armed robbers to operate and dispose innocent people of their valuables including vehicles.
Many people were said to have lost their lives due to accidents over the bad road while kidnappers and unknown gunmen were said to have taken over the road and used it to commit various crimes in the area.
Past Governors before Gov Soludo had abandoned the road on the flimsy excuse that it is a Federal road and the State cannot repair the road, which had caused untold hardship for the users over the years.
However, it appears that the end of those vices will be soon following the visit of Governor Soludo for the flag-off with his entourage as made promises that he will work on the road before the Christmas celebration.
During the brief ceremony, Soludo said that the contractor handling the project will commence work by next week so as to finish the work before the Christmas season.
During the ceremony, the good people of Umuchu, where the part of the road was badly damaged, came out enmasse to welcome the amiable Governor, Soludo and to thank him for his good heart and thoughtfulness to repair the road.
Some of the indigenes, who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS, said that Soludo is a listening Governor and when he heard about the terrible condition of the road, he came and saw how bad it is and directed the contractor to begin work on the road immediately.
It was not certain if the Governor is using the State money to repair the road or if it is in partnership with the Federal Government being classified as a Federal road.
