ZLP Senatorial Candidate, Greg Amarube Dino Condemns Attack On Peter Obi’s Convoy

The Senatorial Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, for Anambra South Senatorial District, Hon. Greg Amarube, popularly known as Dino, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the convoy of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi.

Dino, who described the incident as “unfortunate, barbaric and a direct assault on democracy,” said that such attacks undermine the unity and peaceful coexistence that Nigeria desperately needs.

The attack reportedly occurred during Mr. Obi’s visit to a state, where hoodlums allegedly intercepted his convoy and damaged vehicles in the entourage. Footage of the incident went viral on social media, drawing condemnation from Nigerians across party lines.

Speaking to journalists in Nnewi on Wednesday, Greg Amarube Dino said the act was not just an attack on Mr. Obi, but an attack on the constitutional rights of every Nigerian citizen.

“Every Nigerian has the right to visit any state in this country without fear of harassment, intimidation or attack,” Dino stated. “From Anambra South to Sokoto, from Lagos to Borno, this country belongs to all of us. Our constitution guarantees freedom of movement. To attack someone because of their political affiliation is to attack the foundation of our democracy.”

The ZLP candidate further stressed that politics should be about service delivery and the welfare of the people, not violence and thuggery.

“Politics is about the people,” he said. “It is about how we can bring development to Nnewi, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Aguata, and Orumba. It is about jobs for our youths, good roads, and better healthcare. It is not about who can block whose convoy or who can shout the loudest. When we reduce politics to violence, we are telling the next generation that leadership is by force, not by competence.”

Dino called on security agencies to immediately investigate the attack and ensure that those responsible are brought to book. He also urged political leaders across all parties to caution their supporters and promote peaceful engagement.

“We may belong to different political parties — ZLP, Labour Party, APC, PDP — but we are Nigerians first,” he added. “Peter Obi remains a respected Nigerian leader and former governor. Whatever our political differences, we must learn to disagree without resorting to bloodshed.”

The Anambra South ZLP candidate also appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence.

“To our young people: don’t sell your future for ₦5,000 to attack someone. Demand schools, hospitals, and jobs. That is what politics should be about,” Dino said.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to issue-based campaigning in the forthcoming senatorial race, promising that Anambra South deserves a representative who will prioritize peace, security, and economic empowerment for constituents.

The condemnation by Greg Amarube Dino adds to growing voices calling for calm and the protection of all political actors as the country prepares for future elections.
