The Anambra State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, has reiterated the commitment of his party to the principles of zoning and rotation of he office of the governor in the state.

In a statement today in Awka, Sir Norbert averred that APGA would irrevocably pick its flag bearer in next year’s gubernatorial election from Anambra South Senatorial district.
He maintained that the decision of his party to go South in its choice of standard bearer in the 2021 gubernatorial poll was informed by its strong belief in the golden rules of justice, equity, fairness and good conscience.
The Anambra State APGA Chairman explained that his party is motivated by the decision it took with the blessing of its Supreme Leader, late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in 2009 at Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, to ensure that the office of the Governor of the state is rotated among the three senatorial districts of the state.
Sir Norbert also observed the zoning and rotation principle is popular with Ndi Anambra and emphasised that APGA would be diligent in its choice so as to select the most qualified governorship aspirant from Anambra South as its candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial race.
He noted that by the end of the second tenure of Governor Willie Obiano in 2022, persons from Anambra North and Central districts would have respectively occupied the office of the Governor of the state for longer periods of time than the South district.Sir Norbert wondered why any true Igbo man, who has been agitating for justice and restructuring of the Nigerian federation, would hypocritically work against zoning and rotation of political offices in any of the five states in the Southeast geopolitical zone of the country.
The Anambra APGA boss expressed gratitude to the Chief Emeka Anyaoku led Anambra Elders Council for throwing its weight behind zoning and rotation formula in Anambra State, adding that it is also on record that a former Vice President of Nigeria from Anambra State, late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, was unequivocal in his support for the formula in his life time.
Sir Norbert reiterated his call on the citizenry to sustain their unflinching support and cooperation with the APGA led Obiano administration in its socioeconomic development efforts, especially in this period of Covid-19 pandemic.
