The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two persons who has been impersonating men of Nigeria Army to extort and maltreat innocent people in Agbado area of Ogun State.
The two men -Joseph David and Adebayo Olanrewaju Ojoye- were arrested following a complaint from one Barrister Paul Oniyo and Chima Solomon who had suspected their illegal activity in the area.
It was gathered that the suspects have been parading themselves as military officers and used it to intimidate, extort money, harass and carry out illegal detention of the residents.
Our correspondent gathered that it was such action that have now landed them in trouble and in detention.
The suspects’ victims informed the police that the two, who put on military camouflage accosted them, beat them up and inflicted injuries on them over a minor disagreement.
Following their complaints, the DPO of Agbado Division, CSP Abioye Shittu led detectives to the scene where the suspects were invited and taken to the station.
During interrogation, it was discovered that the two men were mere impostors thriving on illegality for sustenance.
They were immediately arrested and detained at the station and the police also recovered from them various military hardwares, caps and camp bed and all kept as exhibits at the station.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation for further investigation.
