A woman, Mrs. Florence Asoye, lost all her five children after a fire incident, which occurred in their house, left her children burnt beyond recognition in Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Abagbo village in Takwa-Bay area of Lagos where they reside.
The cause of the inferno was not yet known but the Police said that the fire burnt the whole house and the children were locked inside the house by their mother before she went out.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana. He said that on 7th August, 2019, at about 1030hours, Takwa Bay Police Station received information that there was a fire incident at Abagbo Village, Takwa-Bay on 6th August, 2019, which claimed the lives of five children from the same family.
A team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene and saw the charred remains of the victims burnt beyond recognition.
DSP Elkana stated that the mother of the victims, Mrs. Florence Asoye, said in her statement that she left home at about 1830hours to Takwa-Bay Jetty only to come back to see her room completely raised down by fire. She said she left her children under the care of one Suliat but locked the children in the room and left.
When she returned, she discovered that the whole house was razed down by fire and all the property inside the house were destroyed including her children.
The Police gave the names of children who burnt beyond recognition as Folake Ogundiya, ‘f’,13, Abigail Ogundiya, ‘f’,8, Daniel Bakare, ‘m’,6, Chidima Achomye, ‘f’, Nnamdi Achomye, ‘m’ ,2 and Khadijat, ‘f’, 1.
DSP Elkana said that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, has since directed the Police team to investigate the cause of the fire which consumed the victims.
