The Abia Rejoice Movement, a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has said it is time for the state to resist the imposition of political office holders by some state leaders’ in Abia.

The convener of the group, spoke at a press conference in Umuahia.

He said “it is time for Abians to begin to choose their leaders themselves, and not allow some people to select for them”.

Although the group did not name anyone, it was apparently referring to some leaders.

According to the convener, he stated that Abia Rejoice supporters and all members of the Abia APC should disregard any news suggesting that a particular gubernatorial aspirant has been adopted as the consensus candidate.

“The futile attempt by one of the Abia APC Gubernatorial aspirants to be imposed as consensus candidate of the party against popular demand and political reality has met a brick wall because the NWC of the party outrightly rejected this devilish proposal and has enjoined all aspirants to prepare for direct mode of primaries where all members of the party will elect the gubernatorial candidate in Abia.”

“As against the scheming and machinations of this aspirant and his collaborators to avoid open, level-play, competitive primaries, we are happy to reiterate the readiness and preparedness of our principal: Dr. Uche Ogah, to compete in a free and fair direct mode of primaries that will elect the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 Abia gubernatorial election and we are confident that he will emerge victorious.”

“There cannot be imposition in Abia APC for electing gubernatorial candidate and anyone harbouring such thought should perish it but rather, should come out and test his popularity and acceptability. No short-cut to becoming Abia APC Gubernatorial candidate.”

“All card-carrying members of the Abia APC, are therefore, enjoined to come out enmasse and vote Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, OON, FCA, to be Abia APC Gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 General election” Abia Rejoice Movement said.
