Facts have emerged how a 36-year old man, Kingsley Essien, sold his wife, Bright, for N1.4m to a human trafficking cartel abroad and back here in Nigeria sold their only son for N600,000 but was later caught.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Agbara area of Ogun State, where they reside before Kingsley committed the dastardly act.

The Police operatives from Ogun State Command have arrested Kingsley and detained him at the station for interrogation over the alleged crimes against humanity.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer,  DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed that the suspect was in Police custody undergoing investigation having been reported by his wife, Bright.

The Police spokesman stated that the suspect, Kingsley, was arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly trafficking his wife to Mali for prostitution having sold her to the cartel for the said amount and went ahead to sell her 2-year old son after she travelled out.

Oyeyemi stated the arrest followed the report to the Police at Agbara Divisional Headquarters by the suspect’s wife, Bright Essien, who reported that sometime in October 2021, her husband, Kingsley Essien, informed her that he had secured a job for her in Bamako, Mali, and that he has assisted many people to that country for greener pastures before.

She explained further that being her husband, she did not suspect any foul play until she got to Mali only to discover that she had been sold to a human trafficking cartel headed by a woman at the rate of N1.4m. While in Mali, she was forced into prostitution, but later find her way to Nigeria Embassy in Bamako, where she was assisted back to Nigeria.

On getting to Nigeria, she discovered that her 2-year old son in care of her husband was nowhere to be found.

The Police PRO added that on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime and also confessed further that he sold the 2-year old son to somebody after his wife had travelled.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

The Police boss equally ordered that the buyer of the son must be traced and arrested in order to recover the stolen child and for prosecution of the suspects.
The suspect risks several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigation by the Police.
