For the first time since Access Bank Lagos City Marathon began three years ago, foreign athletes, especially the elite ones, will be treated to special packages of Lagos hospitality.
P.M.EXPRESS can report that on Saturday night, the organisers will hold a gala nite for the athletes, while a tour of notable places of interest is also being put together to make the foreigners have a feel of Lagos tourist potentials on Sunday morning.
These were disclosed by the General Manager of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Mr Yusuf Alli at the seminar organised for the media covering the championship in Lagos on Wednesday.
Alli said the gala nite on Saturday and the tour on Sunday are coming for the first time to add values and promote tourism through the IAAF sanctioned event.
He said because most of the foreign athletes had planned their traveling for Sunday, the tour will hold between 8am-10am, but added that by next year, there will be elaborate plans for the tour to take longer time.
According to Alli, no fewer than 84 elite athletes from 28 countries of the world will take part in Saturday’s third edition of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. He said this year’s competition is very important as it will be a qualifying tournament for the marathon event of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, even as he expressed his happiness that the Lagos City Marathon is the second event to attain bronze medal status within two years of its existence.
