The State’s Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Phillip Shaibu, who made this statement, in a post- match interview, said the quality and skillful football players which Team Lagos paraded at the Games, had the basic requirements to play for Bendel Insurance, adding that three football players from Imo State had also been shortlisted.
On the 3-2 win, Shaibu, said he was optimistic that his team would win the gold medal in the football event based on the squad’s thorough training programmes which led to the victory, stressing.that the gods of soccer paved the way for his team to record a win against Team Lagos.
While explaining that Team Edo played to the coach’s instructions, the Deputy Governor said the investment of the state government in sports had been yielding positive results based on the regeneration of Bendel Insurance and Edo Queen Football Clubs.
He said the Edo State Government under the rein of Governor Godwin Obaseki, had put in place a solid structure for the maintenance of the sports facilities used at the Games.
