All Roads Lead To Ibeji Lekki For Igbo Day Celebration On Sunday

All roads in Lagos on Sunday 19th December, 2021, will lead to Ibeji Lekki for the Igbo day celebration and New Yam festival as dignitaries from within and outside Lagos State have already started arriving for the epoch making event.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the event is being organized by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Ibeju-lekki under the traditional head, aka Ezendigbo, Eze Chris (Sir) Offia will be held at Sharpen the Sword Stadium by SKI hotel, Lekki Epe Express way Bogije,  Ibeju-lekki, Lagos State. 

The chairman of the occasion is Chief (Dr) Ude Ukpai while the special guest of honour is Hon. Mojeed Fatai Adebola, member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ibeji Lekki Constituency.
Other top personalties that will attend the epoch event include the amiable President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, Council of traditional rulers, Lagos state led by Eze Offia who is also the royal father of the day,  Eze Hycient Ohazuruike, Eze Christian Nwachukwu, Eze Uche Dimgba, Eze Charles Emesim, Eze Vincent Iwobi, Igwe Nnaemeka Ugwunta,  Igbo Queen Lagos State, Madam Lilian Chinonso Osufia, stakeholders in Ibeju Lekki and top other dignitaries.

The Chief host of the event is Chief Edward Mbajiorgu and the planning committee is led by Engineer Boniface Ajibo.

This was confirmed by Eze Offia who is the Chairman of Council of traditional rulers Lagos State Eze, who further stated the occasion to build more synergies with other ethnic groups and Igbo Community in Ibeji Lekki and indeed Lagos.
Eze Offia stated the significance of the New Yam festival to Ndigbo, which is the reason it is being celebrated by the Igbo people all over the world.
He stated that the festival has its origin from the forefathers of Ndigbo, who sustained eating yam in the time of lack and maintained yam as the chief crop for Igbo people.
He explained that the event will also be used to thank God for His mercy and protection and then take stock of various activities during the year.
Eze explained that during the celebration, the period will be used to recognize and honour Igbo sons and daughters including friends, who have distinguished themselves in various fields and there will be display of Igbo rich cultural heritage such as masquerades, dance groups and others.
