Angry Traders Attack Task Force Team, Cut Police Man With Machetes

A 37-year old Police Sergeant, attached to the Lagos State Environmental Task Force and Enforcement, Sgt. Adeojo Damilola, met his sad end after he was attacked by angry traders.

P.M.EXPRESS confirmed that Sergeant Damilola, with Force Number 431882, met his untimely death at Mile 12 Market in Ketu area of Lagos where he had gone to enforce the law with other officers.

It was gathered that members of the Task Force team had invaded the market not knowing that the traders were prepared for attack. They apprehended Sgt. Damilola while the other officers escaped. It was then that they brought out cutlasses they hid in their shops and attacked him. They were said to have used inflicted cuts on almost all parts of his body before he dropped on the ground. The traders involved in the perpetration of the dastardly act reportedly disappeared before members of the team came and took his severed parts to the hospital.

The incident was said to have traumatized both the police and Task Force officials over the manner the late Sgt. Damilola was murdered.

However, some of the perpetrators of the act have been arrested following the operation of the detective team from SCIID, Panti, Lagos.
Those so far arrested included Olamide Aboyemi, 19, Ibrahim Folami, 35, Opeyemi Ibrahim, 35, Olabode Okwatobi, 22, Ekemezie Boniface, 60 and Gafar Okintunde, 40.

The suspects were charged before Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for the alleged offence. The police alleged that Aboyemi conspired with others to prevent the enforcement activities of officials of Lagos Task Force and committed murder by killing one Adeojo Damilola while on official duty.
The court denied them bail after the prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Oladele, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. O.O. Olatunji, denied them bail and ordered them to be remanded in prison. The Court also ordered the prosecutor to duplicate their file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 21st May, 2019 for the report of the DPP to be ready.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the defendants may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds them culpable and recommends them to be tried for murder. They may be sentenced to death or life imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty by Court over the alleged offence.
