Asaba 2018 Athletics: Female Traditional Ruler Welcomes DRM Delegates, CAA Officials

The Omu of Anioma and Head of market women in Okpanam, Asaba,  Obi Martha Dunkwu, has welcome delegates from 54 African countries that will participate in the first African Senior Athletics Championships Delegates Registration Meeting (DRM) and officials of CAA that are coming for final inspection of facilities and equipment.

The final inspection holds July 9 and the DRM July 10.

Omu who oversees the affairs of Asaba community and controls the market women expressed satisfaction on the completion of the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba for the Championships.

In a statement signed by CAA Asaba 2018 head of Media and Publicity, Olukayode Thomas, the female monarch said she is excited that the equipment delivered for the Asaba Championship ranked among the best in the world and some even surpass the required standard to host the African championship.

“I appeal to all residents of Asaba and all Deltans to welcome our visitors with open arms and be nice to them throughout their stay.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done well by completing the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba and hosting this Championships that will bring people from across the world to Asaba, the only way we can show appreciation to our amiable Governor is to welcome our visitors warmly”.

The traditional ruler appealed to all residents especially market women to keep the city clean.

“I appeal to all residents of Asaba, especially market women to cooperate with visitors from far and near. Let’s project Asaba to the world so that investors can come here to invest. Let’s keep Asaba clean and be of good behaviors to our guests from all over the world.

The Omu who also doubles as the royal Mother of Asaba said that the Delta State government deserved huge commendations

“What Delta State has presently, no state in Nigeria can boast of it which shows the commitment of the Governor to sports activities.

“We have three beautiful stadia and many mini stadia in all the nooks and crannies of Delta. That is why we are number one in sports in Nigeria. I thank Governor Okowa for the brand new one in Asaba, it is world class and it is super ready to host the African Championships”.
