Abesan Mini Stadium, located in Ipaja, a Lagos suburb will come alive on Saturday, April 10, when Bodyweapon Taekwondo Club, Agbado pays a visit to Fitness and Kickers Club.During the visit, taekwondoists of the two clubs would train together.
In a chat with PM Express, chief instructor of Bodyweapon Club, Emmanuel Banjo described the visit as “homecoming for me”.
According to him “I started my taekwondo journey from Fitness and Kickers club with Master Lucky Ogunmelen as my instructor.
“In fact, whatever I have achieved today in taekwondo is to the credit of my mentor and instructor for life, Master Lucky Ogunmelen. So going to Abesan is going back to my taekwondo roots”.
However, the trip is not only to satisfy the nostalgic yearnings of the instructor. It is also to meet the needs of the students.
Banjo further revealed “For the students, the trip will afford them the opportunity to train in a different environment and spar with a different set of taekwondoists.
“Such exposure is very healthy for the taekwondoists as it will have a positive effect on their confidence level”.
“Then, among my students, there are those yet to have a feel of what it entails to participate in a competition.
“The trip to Abesan will also help them”.
Apart from the Abesan trip, Banjo said other similar outings were on the card of his club He enthused “The Abesan trip is the beginning of many trips lined up for the year. “We achieved little last year because of the Covid 19 pandemic. Fortunately, the story of Covid 19 has changed this year with a vaccine to tame the monster now available.
“We have a lot of programmes, from visits to competitions. It’ll be a very busy year for us in Bodyweapon”
