Results from Team Lagos’ camp in the ongoing Edo 2020 National Sports Festival in Benin showed that more gold medals were won on Day 7 (Friday) to push the state up the ladder on the medals table.

Though this newspaper could not access the official medal table as at the time of going to press, there are strong indications that the increased number of gold medals hauled in alone on Friday would have jack Team Lagos up on the table.

The state cleared most medals in Badminton which was concluded Friday at the Etete Gymnasium, Sapele Road, Benin City. Anuoluwapo Opeyori defeated his compatriot Godwin Olufia to win the men’s singles gold medal, while Olufia settled for the silver medal. The duo of Opeyori and Olufia won the men’s doubles gold., while Lagos also picked the men’s team event gold with Opeyori, Olufia. Daniel Christopher Egbonyi and Funsho Opeyori in action.

In athletics, Abejoye Oyeniyi gave a gold medal to Team Lagos in the 110m men’s hurdles, while Miracle Thompson won a silver medal in the 100m women’s hurdles. The double event of scrabble intermediate category also produced a gold medal through Adeyemi Adeosun and John Aiyedun.

Smart Olopele was outstanding in the 200 meters breaststroke swimming. The effort of the athlete gave a gold medal to Team Lagos from that event.

In Para – Athletics, Chidima Dennis won a bronze medal in Discuss and another bronze in Javelin.
