Bola Ahmed Tinubu Boys, otherwise known as the Smart City Football Club were proud winners of the 2019 edition of Winners Golden Bet (WGB) sponsored Lagos Football Association Cup championship at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.

The final, which was watched by capacity crowd at the stadium, saw Smart City FC, last year’s runners up, beating Spartan FC 1-0 to lift the trophy of the men’s category of the FA Cup. Bashiru Karim of the Smart FC won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final match.

The women’s category was won by FC Robo who defeated Young Talent ’99 in another grudge encounter that ended 5-2.

Adeyinka Adeboye, who is the owner of Smart FC hailed the performance of his boys, saying that he was happy that the team have been able to develop rapidly after losing the final of the 2018 WGB/Lagos FA Cup final to more experienced MFM FC.

Adeboye, who is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Grassroots Sports to Lagos State Governor, said the club was named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Boys to honour the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his love for the youths.

“I want to assure that the team will represent the state well at the Federation Cup at the national level and we will ensure that, if need be, we beef up the team as well,” Adeboye said.

To the chairman of Lagos FA, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, the WGB/Lagos FA Cup is getting better by the years. He said the standard and the performance of clubs in this year’s competition were high, adding that with a non league club winning the Cup showed that the competition was highly competitive.

“This shows that no team should be underrated, You can see those big clubs falling by the way on the roads to the final. I believe that the best team in Lagos this year is Smart City FC,” said the chairman, who is also the 2nd Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation.

Akinwunmi commended the support the Lagos FA has been receiving through the sponsorship from Winners Golden Bet. He said the WGB has added values to the organisation of the FA Cup
