As preparation for Lagos State Local Government Election approaches, Police detectives on Tuesday raided a printing center at Ikotun in the suburb of Lagos where Nigerian national identity and voters cards are being reportedly printed in large quantity.
The owner of the centre, Remi Adebiyi has been arrested and detained at the Igando police division who carried out the operation.
The police also recovered some exhibits including computers and some machines the suspect was said to be using for the illegal printing.
The discovery was made by the police at 1 Governor’s road, College bus-stop in Ikotun where Adebiyi has his printing press and business centre.
The operation, led by one Inspector Ola, lasted for several hours following a tip-off obtained by the police through a suspect.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Adebiyi, who is the director of Rems Multimedia, has been in the business of printing which includes business cards, posters and now illegal national voters cards.
His neighbours are shocked to find out that he engaged in such illegal business, while investigations on who contacted him to print the voters cards are to commence.
Adebiyi, in a chat with P.M.EXPRESS, initially told our correspondent that he does not engage in any illegal business but later confessed when the police opened one of his seized computers and showed him specimens of the cards in the system.
When our correspondent visited Igando police division, Adebiyi and one of his female staff were seen detained there.
Efforts to speak with the DPO failed as source confirmed that the police have commenced full investigation into the matter.
