BETHEL BRIGIDI
The Brigidi family of Kaiyanbiri, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, wishes to announce with profound sadness and grief the death of their son, Distinguished Senator David Cobbina Brigidi, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 30th September, 2018, at Guys Cancer Centre, London.
Senator Brigidi, a successful lawyer who was also a top political leader and played various roles in the country’s return to democracy in 1998, died from complications arising from cancer which he had bravely fought for several months.
The Distinguished Senator was pioneer Chairman of UNCP and later PDP in Bayelsa, and represented Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers from 1999 to 2007. As the youngest member of the Senate during his time, he was known for his vibrancy, sharp intellect and bridge-building capacity. He was Chairman of Petroleum Committee of the Senate and member of many other committees. He also served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Niger Delta in 2008. Senator Brigidi contributed enormously to deepening the friendship between Nigeria and Ghana, his maternal home. He was a very successful businessman with investments in Nigeria, Ghana and the rest of West Africa.
He just turned 56 years on 16th September, 2018, few days before his death. The family will announce burial arrangements in due course. May his soul rest in peace!
