Black British top actors David Oyelowo and Idris Elba have been announced among those outstanding personalities to be honoured by Her Majesty the Queen.
The two stars will each receive an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for their contribution to British drama as part of the Queens New Year’s Honours List 2016.
Oyelowo and Elba will be awarded with their medals at a ceremony sometime in 2016.
This year has been great for both actors, with the two landing nods for next month’s Golden Globe Awards.
The stars will go head to head, as they both received nominations in the Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture made for television category.
Elba was recognised for his role in hit BBC series, Luther and Oyelowo for his performance in HBO drama American drama film, Nightingale.
Elba, 43, also earned a nomination in the category, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of the ruthless warlord in the Netflix original film Beasts of no Nation.
In 2012, the east London-born actor walked away with a Golden Globe in 2012, again for his role in Luther.
Though he didn’t win, 39-year-old Oyelowo of Nigerian descent was nominated in Best Actor for a Drama at this year’s Golden Globes for his role in Oscar-winning civil rights film, Selma.
