Nigeria’s team to the 2018 African Nations Championships (CHAN) in Morocco, the Super Eagles B Team have commended the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for redeeming the sum of N20 million he pledged to the team during their outing at the CHAN early this year.
The cheque for the N20m was given to the representative of the CHAN Eagles, goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye at a brief ceremony held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Tuesday. The chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr Kweku Adedayo Tandoh presented the cheque on behalf of the Governor in company of the Director General of the Sports Commission, Hon Babatunde Bank-Anthony.
The cheque was presented to the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Seyi Akinwunmi, who immediately presented the cheque to Ajiboye.
“On behalf of the team, I want to thank and appreciate Governor Ambode for this kind gesture, this will go a long way to support the team,” Ajiboye said.
The 1st Vice President of the NFF, Akinwunmi, assured that the money giving by the Governor will go to the team that deserved it.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tandoh recalled that the Governor made the pledge of N20m to the Eagles who was impressed with the outing of the Nigerian team at the 2018 CHAN. Nigeria placed second in the competition designed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players playing on the continent.
“The Governor is redeeming his pledge to help the players and officials of the team who did the country proud at the 5th African Nations Championships in Morocco. I’m so glad that the team are receiving the cheque today, ” Tandoh said.
