Chiji Collins And His Disgraceful Misfiring: Why It Shall Never Be Well With “Mkpurumiri”

PRINCE MACDONALD ENWERE

After watching the viral online video where the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly and member representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency, Rt. Hon Chiji Collins, disgraced himself, I concluded that some of our politicians need mental rehabilitation from their delusional fantasy. In fact, I became ashamed of our politics. How can Chiji Collins in a meeting with members of his Constituency, act like someone loose from a chain, just because he was advised by his party Youth leader to drop his third term bid as a result of his colossal failure and poor representation. Such shouldn’t have infuriated Chiji Collins to the extent of losing control and throwing away the tray of sacred kolanut presented to the public. Such action was embarrassing, disgusting, reprehensible, shameful, disgraceful and dishonourable. I least expected such a disgraceful outing from a legislator in the ranking of Hon Chiji Collins.

I used to think that with his size, one can find something reasonable in his brain but I never knew that Chiji Collins is a barrel of emptiness. He really deserves 24 strokes of cane. No matter the level of provocation, he shouldn’t have condescended to the lowest and disgraceful ebb of throwing away a tray of kolanut presented to the public. This is not only sacrilegious but a dirty slap to Igbo culture and custom. Politics apart, Chiji Collins has attracted curse upon himself. He should ask his elders the consequences of throwing away kolanut presented to the public. In Igbo tradition, such act is not only sacrilegious but has grave consequences.  No reasonable person can involve in such a misfiring. It is only someone under the influence of “Guzoro” or “Mkpurumiri” can involve in such a reprehensible display.

To be frank, I never knew that Chiji Collins could in such a slightest provocation decide to sell his blue ribbon in such a disgraceful manner. Such an infantile and sarcastic outburst has confirmed his vacuity. His action is very unbecoming of a public functionary and antithetical to political positivism.

One expected him to comport himself with a modicum of decency, responsibility and maturity but he condescended to quackery of the cheapest and most hackneyed form amid irredeemable depravity.

The problem with our public office holders is that they have failed to realize that leadership is a social contract between the leaders and the people, and should be used for the benefit of the people who gave them their mandate. Rather, the likes of Chiji Collins see it as a means to satisfy their egocentricity and avaricious appetite. This is what is obtained when people of low moral standard are elected into Public offices. My wish is that our political space be rescued from buccaneers.
