Court Remands Man, 27, In Kirikiri Over Alleged Illegal Firearms

A 27-year-old man, Ogundipe Emmanuel, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magisterial District over alleged unlawful possession of firearms in Egbin, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to the charge sheet sighted by http://pmexpressng.com, the defendant was charged alongside others at large in connection with an incident dated 6th April, 2026.
The charge sheet marked with case details indicated that the matter was filed by the Commissioner of Police against Ogundipe Emmanuel ‘m’ aged 27 years before the court.
Count I on the charge sheet alleged that the defendant and others at large on the 6th day of April, 2026 at Egbin of Ikorodu area of Lagos, conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit unlawful possession of firearms.
The offence in Count 1 was said to be punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, according to the document.
Count II of the charge sheet alleged that on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, the defendant and others now at large had in their possession a locally made single barrel pistol with two live cartridges.
The prosecution alleged that the firearm was kept without any authority granted by the Inspector General of Police or any constituted authority, as stated in the charge sheet.
The act in Count II was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 312(1)(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, the document stated.
The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate Mr. L.A. Owolabi, according to details contained in the court proceedings.
The prosecution was led by SP Josephine Ihkayere, who represented the Commissioner of Police before the Lagos Magisterial District.
The charge sheet also referenced officers involved in the matter, including SP Banti Adamu of D/C Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja, and INSPR. Adefilelo Adetola as the Investigating Police Officer.
The charge sheet showed approval from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Office Ogba, as indicated by “DPP APPROVED” on the document dated 13-05-2026.*
Following the arraignment, the matter was referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, as directed by the court.
Under Section 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, possession of firearms without lawful authority is classified as a felony offence in Nigeria, with courts treating such cases as serious criminal matters due to public safety concerns.
The Magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, as stated in the court proceedings.
