Court Stops Chief Solomon Aguene, Sunday Ossai From Conducting Ohanaeze Election

The Lagos State High Court has ordered Chief Solomon Aguene and Chief Sunday Ossai to refrain from conducting Ohanaeze Ndigbo election, which was planned take place on 16th April, 2026, in the State. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the order of the Presiding Judge, Justice M.M. Balogun, who gave the order on 31st March, 2026 and ordered the parties in the suit number YSD/96800CM/2025 to maintain status quo.

 

The judge gave the order and adjourned the matter till 24th April, 2026, for hearing at 12noon, as contained in the enrollment order of the Court signed by the Legal Registrar,  Abiola Adewuyi.

 

What this means is that the election cannot go on as planned and the consent judgment will expire before the adjourned date for continuation of hearing on the suit now between Robert Obasi and Everestus Ozonweke for themselves and on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State versus Solomon Ogbonna and Gabby Oseke.

ENROLMENT OF ORDER

UPON THIS MATTER coming up today, 31st of March, 2026 for Hearing.

2nd UPON the absence of the 1ª Claimant/Applicant, presence of the 2nd and 3rd Claimants/Applicants, absence of the Defendants/Respondents, appearance of Chino Obiagwu (S.A.N.) (with Chizitelu Ikwueme Esq. and Favour Uchendu Esq.) of Counsel for the Claimants/Applicants and appearance of L. U. N. Ojukwu Esq. of Counsel for the Defendants/Respondents, Chino Obiagwu (S.A.N.) (with Chizitelu Ikwueme Esq. and Favour Uchendu Esq.) of Counsel for the Claimants/Applicants, informed the Honourable Court that the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction dated 29th July, 2025 is ripe for Hearing and will only concede to a further adjournment of the Suit if the Learned Counsel for the Defendants/Respondents concedes to an Order for Parties to maintain Status quo in this Suit, L. U. N. Ojukwu Esq. Counsel for the Defendants/Respondents was not opposed to the same, considering the circumstances of him having only three (3) Court processes in this Suit, the Further Affidavit in Support of the Motion on Notice dated 29th July, 2025 sworn to on the 24th March, 2026, Notice of Withdrawal of the 1st Claimant from the Suit and a 2nd Further Affidavit in Support of the said Motion on Notice sworn to on the 30th March, 2026 and will need time to react to this Suit.

In the ruling, the judge, Hon. Justice M. M. Balogun stated:

“ACCORDINGLY IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AS FOLLOWS:

1. AN ORDER OF THIS HONOURABLE COURT is made MANDATING the Parties in this Sult to maintain Status quo as at today: 31 March, 2026.

 

2. AN ORDER OF THIS HONOURABLE COURT is made GRANTING accelerated Hearing of this Suit.

 

“Return Date shall be the 24th April, 2026 for Hearing at 12noon.”  It stated.
