The Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, love, and religious harmony as Christians across the country celebrate the Easter season.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the Ooni described Easter as a significant spiritual period that symbolizes sacrifice, renewal, and the triumph of hope over adversity.
The Ooni noted that the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ offers profound lessons on selflessness, forgiveness, and unwavering faith, urging Nigerians to reflect these virtues in their daily lives and interactions with one another.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s progress and stability depend largely on unity among its people, regardless of religious or ethnic differences. According to him, peaceful coexistence remains the bedrock for sustainable development and national growth.
The revered traditional ruler further urged citizens to use the Easter period to pray for the country, especially for its leaders, peace, and economic recovery. He stressed that collective prayers and positive actions are crucial to overcoming the nation’s current challenges.
While acknowledging the socio-economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians, the Ooni encouraged citizens not to lose hope but to remain steadfast, resilient, and optimistic about the future.
He also called on leaders at all levels to demonstrate compassion, integrity, and accountability in governance, noting that true leadership reflects the sacrificial spirit exemplified during the Easter celebration.
The monarch reiterated his commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and mutual respect among adherents of different religions, adding that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division.
The Ooni concluded by wishing Christians a joyful and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration, praying that the season brings renewed hope, peace, and prosperity to every home and the nation at large.
