The ongoing Ramadan Cup which kicked off On Sunday at Evan Square Playground, Ebute- Metta, Lagos has really brought unity and friendliness among the youth in the Mainland Local Government of the state.
Chairman Organising Committee, Kazeem Abolaji Adeoye who witnessed the opening match with the thousands of youths in Ebute- Metta and its environs said the tourney has brought the old good days back to Mainland. He disclosed that the turnout was impressive and urged the participating teams to see the competition as friendly game not a do- or – die affairs
“Our opening match was very colourful and watched by thousands of spectators. Many faces that have left the field came around to witness the competition. I must say that the competition has brought old good days back to Ebute- Metta. Everybody was happy and there is no fight or hooliganisms during and after the game. I want to use this medium to urge the players to be good ambassadors of their clubs and do away with any social vices that can bring the tourney into disrepute,” he said.
Commenting on the matches played so far, match coordinator, Adeoye popularly known as Coach Flourish explained that all the teams lived up to expectations saying that this year’s edition is better organized in terms of officiating, organization and standard of play by the teams.
He disclosed that there are some teams from outside Ebute- Metta that played better which attract spectators to show keen interest in the competition.
In the matches played so far, Modiu FC defeated De- Old Dark FC 4-2, Sailor FC lost 2- 5 to pappy FC, while Ayetti FC humbled Northerner FC 3-0..
Action continues on Saturday when Footballer Base FC battle Adamson FC, B- Unit FC tackle Junior Samba FC.
