The Director-General/CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, on Thursday received a delegation from NORETEK Energy Ltd at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

In the course of their deliberation, Dr. Abdullahi provided an overview of the Commission’s activities and reaffirmed ECN’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions.

The Managing Director of NORETEK Energy Ltd, Edward Traore, outlined the company’s key focus areas, including the Green Hydrogen Project, fertilizer production, and its collaboration with the German firm GIZ. The Managing Director emphasized NORETEK’s interest in aligning its initiatives with ECN policies to drive progress in renewable energy (RE) and agricultural energy.

Lokoja was identified as the project’s proposed site, chosen for its abundant water resources and ammonia production potential, as well as the integration of advanced German technology. The Managing Director expressed confidence in the project’s viability, citing the availability of necessary resources, funding, and technological support.

Dr. Abdullahi assured the NORETEK delegation of ECN’s full support to facilitate the project’s success. He also committed to engaging with the Governor of Kogi State to ensure smooth implementation, including land allocation. The Green Hydrogen Project, he noted, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, reinforcing Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.

To formalize the partnership, ECN presented a letter of credence to NORETEK Energy LTD. Dr. Abdullahi further announced that the Commission is currently developing a Hydrogen Policy Document, which will undergo stakeholder review before its official public release.

The NORETEK Energy LTD delegation, comprising Edward Traore, Engr. Nuhu Ajanah, Norbet Shialsuk, Najib Bounader, Hilary Elegeonye, and Oniel Ekwedi, expressed gratitude for ECN’s support and collaboration in advancing the project.
