Facts have emerged on why the former President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Chief Oliver Akubueze, reportedly went into hiding over his alleged sponsorship of the #EndSARS protest, which later turned violent in the state.

P.M.EXPRESS has confirmed that Chief Akubueze actually went into hiding after he was wrongly accused of sponsoring #EndSARS protest which later turned into violence.

It was gathered that his life was under serious threat, bank accounts reportedly frozen and the security agencies were looking for him to explain his role during the #EndSARS protest.

Since the information linked him with the protest and he was said to be wanted by the Police authorities, he went into hiding and relocated to an unknown place.

When Akubueze was contacted, he confirmed that he went into hiding after he was wrongly accused of sponsoring the #EndSARS protest and has been subjected to all manners of intimidations, harassments and assaults.

He said, “I was wrongly accused as one of the sponsors of the protest and since then, it has been embarrassments, threat to life and all manner of assaults. My bank accounts have been blocked etc. I am President Emeritus of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State 2009 – 2013 and the current Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Council of Elders and I am no longer safe since the #EndSARS protest”.

Chief Akubueze may be wrongly arrested and prosecuted for what he did not commit due to wrong information.

The Police had earlier picked some people suspected to have sponsored the protest and their bank accounts were frozen while some were prosecuted for criminal offences in various States. In Lagos alone, about 500 were arrested and charged before Court and remanded in prison custody whereas many of them said that they did not commit any crime.
