A female Police Inspector attached to Ejigbo Division in Lagos, Toyin Awelewa, will not forget in hurry the day she received serious beating from a man who posed as a Military officer but it was later discovered that the man was fake.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Jakande Estate, Ejigbo area of Lagos, where Toyin was deployed to control traffic in the area.

While the female Police officer was performing her lawful duty there, she had an encounter with the 39-year old Ikechukwu Chokuba, who wore an Army uniform. He assaulted Toyin and reportedly beat her mercilessly before he was held and taken to the Station for interrogation.

While the assault lasted, Toyin reportedly did not fight back because she thought he was a Military officer not knowing he was fake.

This got exposed when he was interrogated at the Police Station; he confessed that he was fake and was using the uniform as cover on the road.

The female officer, Toyin, was shocked that the man, who gave her such assault in public while performing her lawful duty, was not a Military officer.

After interrogation, the Police found the man culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for impersonation by wearing Nigerian Army uniform.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing for the Police to prove that he committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in Correctional Centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 26 April, 2021, for mention.
