Mrs Arinola Oloko, founder of Minders Schools, one of Lagos top private Montessori schools, is set to battle other parties candidates for the seat of Eti-Osa State Constituency in Lagos State House of Assembly under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Oloko, in her late 40s, is a mother of two, and holds a Masters in Public Health.
She has successfully ran a business for the last 23 years, and in her years in the world of business, she has seen the need to give back to the society hence her supports for various non-profit and community development initiatives across the county under the foundation, Bare Necessities.
Some of her projects includes the most recent distribution of 500 back-to-school packs to children in Primary and Secondary school around Lagos, especially those in Eti-Osa Local Government.
She has also assisted in providing medical interventions to people living in the slums of Makoko and Ibasa community, provision of scholarship to students in the community.
Speaking on why she has decided to run, Oloko said it was to take her interventions to the next level.
“I had always been interested in politics, and l see the need to serve people around me. Every time I mentioned it, I was shut down by the people around me. Questions like, are you mad? You can’t cope, it’s for loose women, married women don’t go into politics, why do you want to spoil your name,” she stated.
But Oloko wasn’t bothered by all of that initial discouraging comments rather she decided to make herself available to run for a spot at the Lagos House of Assembly to represent the people and fight for their needs.
She also sought and got the ticket of SDP to run and fulfill her passion for empowerment of women, increased participation of women in politics, improved state of living conditions, improved community health, financial safety (human capital) youths empowerment and the need to improve the lot of the down trodden in her constituency.
