Nigeria’s first super model and pioneer of professional modeling in Nigeria, Yemi Fawaz is dead.

Fawaz died Wednesday February 20 at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, United States.

P.M.EXPRESS learnt that Fawaz, 64, died after a prolonged battle with Colon Cancer.

Her daughter, Magdalene Oluwatobi Fawaz confirmed her demise on Facebook on Thursday.

“It is with great sadness that I am announcing the passing of my Mother Deaconess Yemi Fawaz. We thank God for her well lived life and for her strong faith in the Lord Almighty. Her home going arrangements will be announced soon. I ask that you keep our family in your prayers and I am grateful that she was able to touch you all in so many ways,” the demised Fawaz’s 33 year old daughter wrote.

Unconfirmed reports also have it that she had a hole in her heart which compounded her heart trouble.

Before Fawaz relocated to America in 1997, she was a social goddess who dominated soft sell magazines and gossip tabloids in those days long before the Internet, social media and Instagram.

She started her modeling career early and became a super model in the late 70s. She also established a modeling school and did a lot for the fashion industry in Nigeria.
