Fast rising professional Nigerian-born boxer, Lasisi ‘Lucky Boy’ Aliu has disclosed that he trains more and gets stronger during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Aliu, who campaigns in the featherweight category in the professional cadre said unlike other Muslims athletes, who hide under the guise of fasting to shun training, but for him training continues.

The orthodox professional pugilist, who had been to Saudi Arabia for Hajj on two occasions noted that he doesn’t know where his strength normally comes from during the Ramadan period. He admonished other professional athletes either Muslims or Christians to be steadfast in their religion and to always train harder whether it is during the Lenten period or the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Speaking from his base in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, the Lagos State-born professional pugilist admonished both professional and amateur athletes to shun drugs and other social vices as they can truncate their promising professional career.

To Aliu, he had seen a number of promising sportsmen and women, whose professional career had suffered setbacks as a result of indulging in drugs and other social vices.

While taking a cursory look at the recently concluded Edo 2020 National Sports Festival particularly the pugilist sport, he admitted that he was impressed with the healthy rivalry displayed by all the participating boxers and urged the National Sports Commission, NSC and the relevant authorities to nurture all the budding talents discovered and nurture them to stardom.

According to the speedy  and entertaining professional boxer: “I followed the recently concluded National Sports Festival through feeds from some of friends that were in Edo State, and I must confess that Nigeria is blessed with so many talented boxers, they all gave good accounts of themselves, my only take is that all the boxers uncovered there should not be discarded but they should monitored and groomed to greater heights, it is not about discovering these boxers but it is about nurturing to become world beaters.”

Continuing, he handed a note of warning to the relevant authorities as regards the state of sports facilities in the country, saying “What stops the Ministry of Youths Sports and Social Development to do the needful buy upgrading the old boxing facilities all over the and country where there are none, they should endeavor to build there.”

On his next fight, he hinted that he should be stepping into the ring for his next professional fight but that would be shortly after the conclusion of the Ramadan or thereabout.
