Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour: A Journey Marked By Political Inconsistency

In the Nigerian political space, consistency and grassroots connection remain vital for leaders who truly desire to win the confidence of the people. Unfortunately, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s political trajectory reflects otherwise. His frequent movement from one party to another – starting from KOWA Party, then to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), moving again to the Labour Party (LP), and now finding his way to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) – paints a clear picture of political inconsistency, if not outright political prostitution.

 

In politics, loyalty and stability matter. A leader who jumps from one platform to another in search of greener pastures or political opportunities reveals more about ambition than service. This is one of the major reasons Rhodes-Vivour has struggled to build a genuine political base.

 

Even in his own ward, Ward D, Anifowoshe, Ikeja, where he resides, he has never been able to secure victory. And the reality remains that he cannot win there. Apart from his inability to communicate effectively in Yoruba – the language of his immediate people – he also lacks grassroots presence. Politics is not only about appearances on television or fiery campaign speeches; it is about the lives touched, the communities impacted, and the relationships built over time.

 

When asked, no one in his immediate ward can point to a project, a gesture of kindness, or even direct financial or moral support from Rhodes-Vivour. Simply put, nobody can say he has ever touched their lives either in kind or in cash. This absence of grassroots engagement makes it difficult, if not impossible, for him to earn the trust of those who should naturally be his strongest supporters.

 

In politics, reputation is everything. A man who is unknown in his own community cannot expect to be embraced as a credible leader across a state. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s frequent party switching and lack of real impact within his locality serve as reminders that political visibility without substance is short-lived.
