Gov Fubara Breathes New Life Into Rivers State Fire Service After 12 Years Of Neglect

In a bold and unprecedented move, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has taken a decisive step toward reshaping Rivers State’s approach to disaster management by revamping the moribund state fire service. As part of this transformation, Governor Fubara recently inspected three critical fire service stations undergoing comprehensive reconstruction. The facilities, located at Mile 1 (Abali Park), Rumuodumaya, and Borokiri, are being rebuilt from the ground up to meet global standards. These stations, which are set to be commissioned in the first week of March 2025, will serve as the backbone of a reinvigorated fire service infrastructure.

During his inspection, Governor Fubara expressed a strong commitment to ending the state’s over-reliance on multinationals such as Shell, Agip, and Chevron for fire incident management. He underscored the importance of self-reliance in disaster response, stating:

“For more than a decade, Rivers State has lacked a functional fire service. This is unacceptable for a government entrusted with the safety of its people. Today, we are rewriting that narrative. These facilities and equipment represent a bold step toward safeguarding lives and properties across the state.”
