The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has tabled a budget estimate of N143. 65bn before the Anambra State House of Assembly for the 2021 fiscal year.

The budget reflects a capital expenditure of N86. 88bn and a recurrent expenditure of N56.77bn indicating 39.5% and 60.5% respectively. It also indicates the Obiano administration’s determination to continue his on-going initiative of aggressive infrastructure development in Anambra State.

Aptly tagged “Budget of Economic Recovery and Consolidation” Governor Obiano explained that the budget was based on realistic projections of all sources of revenue, both external and internal, taking into consideration, the state’s revenue and expenditure trend.

Expressing the optimism that the budget would help his administration to sustain its past performance and ensure that Anambra maintains its status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments, Governor Obiano further revealed that a total of N32bn has been earmarked for roads and bridges.

According to him, the sum of N19.44bn will be spent on the construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones as his administration plans to complete over 50 on-going road projects in the three senatorial zones of the state, as well as construct more roads to open access to agricultural communities and boost food production in the state.

Meanwhile, the sum of N5.8bn was earmarked for the completion of the proposed Anambra International Airport, Umueri and N500m for the completion of the International Conference Centre, Awka. Similarly, the sum of N500m has been earmarked for the development of Sports Stadia in Awka, Ekwulobia and Otuocha.

A further breakdown of the budget shows that Health attracted the sum of N6.8bn, Education attracted N5bn and the Environment attracted N3. 4bn respectively.

Similarly, Agriculture drew the sum of N2.5bn while Youth Empowerment attracted N1bn.
